Coaching Services
I think I make a difference with the athletes I coach, and not just in their racing abilities. When you partner up with me as your coach you get… me. Your coaching doesn’t come from an impersonal ghost-writer who you will never get to know, it doesn’t come from a cut and paste solution that’s ‘supposed to work’ for everyone and the coaching certainly isn’t generated by some mindless coaching software that doesn’t even know your name. You are coached by me.

The reasons I coach are many; I like to provide impactful guidance, help stretch boundaries, introduce unfamiliar concepts, demonstrate there are many ways to get to a goal, explain the improvements and outline the potentials for improvement, and the list goes on.
One of the greatest benefits of coaching is forming a close relationship with like-minded people. I have made some great friendships through coaching and some of my favorite people are the people I coach.
Flexibility in service delivery, real-time adjusted training calendars hosted on TrainingPeaks, training based on the athletes goals and events in balance with work and life commitments (you tell me how many hours you can train and I’ll design the solution), strategic focus on training, on racing, and how to put it all together. My commitment to each athlete is personal and I take pride in the amount of effort I put out to ensure I am doing everything I can to meet their needs.
Texting, emails, phone calls, videos, homework, nutrition, race gear recommendations, pacing, hydration, visualization, pre-event mindset, race day plan, recovery, time-off, time-on, daily analysis and daily feedback to each athlete are some of the things I do – every day.
Is coaching only reserved for elite athletes? Being coached is an option for anyone regardless of their abilities; first-timers, masters class, age-groupers, you name it, but coaching is a commitment to improvement so it might not be for the person looking for improvement without involvement.
So why get a coach and do you need a coach? Well you must be thinking about getting a coach because you are reading this page and so the question hangs out there, “What’s holding you back…”, and usually it’s money.
If coaching were free a lot more people would be using coaches. But coaching isn’t free, if it’s cost that’s holding you back I’d like to put things in perspective based on what I’ve learned over the years and provide the scenario below…
Training for and racing in events will sometimes have athletes shift their focus too heavily towards gear. Good, reliable equipment helps get you to the finish line but a brand new set of brakes won’t make you faster, smarter, or get you much closer to the goals you set out to achieve at the beginning of the year. When athletes look at the year as a whole they will budget on spending money for nutrition, travelling to events and event fees, gear upgrades or replacement and other such things but it’s not common to budget for coaching costs. Will a new wheelset make you a more complete athlete? Will it teach you race psychology? Will that wheelset add a 10% or greater improvement to your abilities and expand your understanding of your sport and yourself? I like to think I do a better job than a new wheelset.
