About Me

48hr racingI train. I race. I coach athletes. I like coffee. I’ve stuck my tongue to frozen monkey bars on the school playground. I like photography. I’m not allergic to anything. I don’t care for wasp stings.

None of the above is in any particular order.

My racing background shows I have raced in the 24hr mountain bike solo world championships for the last four years and I have podiumed three times. I’m starting to lose count of how many 24 Solo’s I’ve done. I have raced countless amounts of shorter races, a lot of 6hr, 8hr and 12hr races and even some multi-day stage racing; out of all of these events I got podium in some of them and I got a t-shirt in the rest of them, what I got in all of them was experience. The longest continuous race I’ve done was a 48hr solo race, the weather was… challenging, I got beaten by the 3 time N. American RAAM race champion. The shortest race I’ve done was with our 5 year old, he thought he could beat me around the block, I let him win.

I like competition, but mainly I race against myself. Don’t get me wrong, I like winning but that’s just the outcome. Most of the time I’m pushing myself so I can learn more about me and by constantly looking to improve I learn more about the world around me.

Looking in to the cornerMy background is diverse; I spent 13 years in the military, I was an operator in an elite national counter-terrorist team (JTF2), upon leaving the military I taught at police colleges and public and private institutions, I’ve done VIP protection, travelled to over 30 countries, been above the Arctic Circle 13 times, owned a coffee shop, setup computer networks and written a book about it, I have skydived, scuba-dived and dived under the sheets at night when I am scared. I’ve done some pretty unique things; some of them were fun and rewarding, some not so much. Coaching over the years has always been fun and rewarding.

We currently live in Calgary, Alberta. I’m married to my lovely wife Doreen and we have two fantastic boys, Evan and Keegan. If you have any other questions, like what’s the most amount of times I’ve been stung by a wasp in less than a minute just go to the Contact page and drop me an email or leave a comment on the Blog page. I’ll be sure to tell you how many wasps it takes to make me unhappy.

Good luck with your pursuits!
